Youth
Group Gatherings are scheduled every Sunday night 6:30 pm –
8:45 pm in the church hall.
At St. Isaac
Jogues Catholic Church, the vision for Youth Ministry has been building
on the fine traditions of the U.S. pastoral documents, “A
Vision of Youth Ministry” and “Renewing the Vision,”
as a response to the new challenges and opportunities of our day
in accordance to the Catholic bishops of the United States. This
vision is most importantly an affirmation of the faith, gifts, energy
and the fresh ideas of the young people in the church today. It
is a Christ-centered vision and it calls us to empower youth for
the mission they have been given by the Lord Jesus Christ in their
baptism.
Youth Ministry,
as it is implemented at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, has a
multidimensional and comprehensive approach for all the baptized
young people in the parish. It serves as an umbrella ministry, which
embraces all adolescences in the parish regardless to their affiliation
to the regular Sunday night youth activities. It calls all baptized
young people to full participation in the celebration of the churches
liturgy and in service in the available ministries of the parish.
Together, with
the parish community and all of its resources, Youth Ministry at
St. Isaac Jogues aims:
- To empower
young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world
today.
- To draw
young people to responsible participation in the life, mission,
and work of the Catholic faith community here and in the local
diocese.
- To foster
the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
These goals
are approached comprehensively through advocacy, catechesis, community
life, evangelization, opportunities to serve in Justice issues,
leadership development, pastoral care, and finally through regular
prayer and worship as a community of believers.
Sunday
Night Youth Meetings
Sunday night youth meetings are designed to offer fellowship,
prayer, and faith formation for high school youth (9th to 12th
grade) with a Catholic perspective. It also keeps them connected
with the Catholic Church community through activities, events and
service opportunities on a weekly basis. These meetings are open
to all high school students and their friends from other religious
denominations. Registration in high school youth ministry is required
for regular participation, but youth visitors are welcome to come
for up to two meetings before registering. Parents are always welcome
to be our guest and are asked to support the ministry through volunteer
service. It is our intension to provide a safe and comfortable environment
for high school youth to gather on church property on a weekly basis.
We operate Youth Ministry in accordance to the guidelines of the
parish and the Diocese of Orlando.
- We offer
fellowship as a chance for the youth to become better
acquainted with each other from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm and again from
approximately 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the Parish Hall. From time
to time, we may offer soft drinks and snacks.
- We offer
prayer & worship in a variety of ways to try to meet
the different needs and styles of each youth. We normally start
with an opening prayer promptly at 7:00 pm. Depending on the prayer
style, we offer the Word of God through scripture, lively music
& hymns and a general meditation. The opening prayer can last
15 to 40 minutes. At the end of the night, we close with a prayer
of intercession.
- We offer
faith formation in small groups, similar to small Christian
communities, where young people have an opportunity to share their
faith in reflection to the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic
Church. These groups of young people are always challenged to
respond to what they have learned in Christian service.
- We offer
interactive activities with a purpose of supporting the message
of each night. Usually, these activities are lively, engaging,
entertaining and purposeful.
- We offer
opportunities and information promoting both parish and Youth
Ministry activities to connect the youth to other ministries and
parish life.
- We offer
guest speakers from our parish and from the wider community.
- We offer
opportunities to serve as an obligation to our baptismal promise.

Peer
Ministry is a ministry for high school teens that serves as a ministry
of Leadership Development that calls forth, affirms and empowers
the diverse gifts, talents, and abilities of young people in our

in securing a responsible place in the parish community. Along with
adult ministers, peer ministers work together in a team approach
to serve the needs of the parish and its youth.
Peer Ministry
offers:
- Training
and formation as Catholic Christian Leaders.
- Monthly
Leadership Meeting for planning, workshops and decision-making.
- Opportunities
to serve in other areas of the parish.
- Adult mentorship
and guidance in ministerial and personal concerns & development.

Retreats |

| At St. Isaac Jogues we are proud of our
retreats for high school youth. We are one of the most successful
Youth Ministry programs in the entire diocese in planning and implementing
retreats. All of our retreat coordinators are very qualified in retreat
planning and leadership. Together with a fairly large team of gifted
people, they take up to several months preparing for a retreat. Dynamic
presentations and speakers are brought together at each retreat. Volunteers
and parents are recruited to serve in support areas and help to provide
a safe and comfortable environment for young people to grow spiritually
and in a strong Christian community. We offer a minimum of two retreats
per year for all high school youth and at least three others in special
concentrations such as leadership development, for high school seniors
and social mission. Our most popular high school retreat is the annual
abstinence retreat entitled: “I’m Worth Waiting For.”
In addition to high school retreats, we offer 1
to 2 middle school retreats where high school youth and young adults
work together to help develop community with the young people in
middle school.

| Justice
& Service Committee |
Contact:
Jennifer Rickett

|
| The
U.S. Bishops’ Pastoral Letter, Communities of Salt and Light:
Reflections on the Social Mission of the Parish states “in
responding to the Scripture and the principles of Catholic social
teaching, parishes are not called to an extra or added dimension of
our faith, but to a central demand of Catholic life and evangelization.”
(USCCB, 4) This document challenges the Committee for Justice &
Service to search and create opportunities for young people and their
families to live in accordance to the Scriptures and Catholic social
teachings to give them an intentional experience in what it truly
means to be a practicing Catholic Christian. Through service in both
justice issues and in charitable projects and in common service to
the parish, this committee implements a call to action.
Being fairly new, the
Justice & Service Committee attempts to plan for at least one
opportunity per month and requires parent support to
be successful!
Hospitality
& Safety
Hospitality & Safety
is of great importance to Youth Ministry. In order to encourage
young people to continue to stay plugged into this essential Ministry,
they need to be greeted into a warm and welcoming environment that
is friendly and caring to youth. Therefore a sense of safety becomes
vital to the environment we are trying to maintain.
In this area, parents
have an opportunity to contribute their time and talents on Sunday
nights. They help with the attendance records and the welcoming
of the youth each and every time. They also, help to communicate
and maintain the safety policy of the parish and the Diocese of
Orlando.
Community
Life & Evangelization
Communication is very
important to Youth Ministry as to any other well organized efforts.
It is in the communication of well organized activities and events
that make it possible to reach out to someone who may need the love
of God to impact their lives. The problem is that most of the time,
parents, youth and friends don’t know what is going on. That
is why this small group of people exists to help communicate details
of up coming activities and those involved with it. Parents and
youth come together on a monthly basis to help put together a Newsletter,
update the webpage, invite guest speakers, take photos, make posters
and make flyers. This group helps us stay connected not only to
what’s going on within Youth Ministry, but also the entire
parish community.
Prayer
& Worship & Music
“Have you spoken
to your Father lately?” We are all children of God! Therefore,
we need to take the time to pray, worship and praise the Lord. In
a community of faith, we are called together in his name, so we
begin and end all of our gatherings in a variety of forms of prayer
and liturgy.
We call upon the young
people and supporting adults to help plan and provide for prayer,
liturgy, worship and music. We urge those with talents to help lead
the young community and encourage them to also help the greater
community in the regular Sunday Eucharistic Celebrations. This group
of talented people helps come closer to the Lord every Sunday night
and on retreats.
Music and song is a form
of prayer that ignites the soul on fire and helps us give praise
and worship the Lord. We highly encourage talented young people
to bring in their instruments of music and their wonderful voices
and share it with the community. Not knowing Catholic and Christian
songs and music is not a problem if they are willing to learn.
Team
Spirit
We have Spirit!…We
have Spirit!...How about YOU? Team Spirit is the Leadership Core
of Youth Ministry. It represents all of the Youth Ministers, Peer
Ministers, Active adult volunteers and involved parents in a team
approach to meeting the needs of youth. Team Spirit gathers on the
first Sunday of each month for discussion, to make decisions and
to plan the implementation of Youth Ministry. The people on this
team are the movers and shakers of the ministry. To be on it, your
participation must be active on a regular basis and in good standings
with the Catholic Church. We are looking for more to join us and
make a difference in the lives of youth. Youth depend on YOUR commitment!
Volunteer
Youth Ministers
The position
of Volunteer Youth Minister (VYM) is a position we ask all adults
to consider in prayer. VYMs are involved in leadership, teaching,
mentoring, and planning. A VYM must be willing to be a role-model
to youth sharing their Christian life style as a true disciple of
Jesus Christ. Therefore, a VYM must be fully initiated and a practicing
Catholic. To become a VYM, we hope that the adult, 23 year old or
older, has taken time to experience what Youth Ministry is all about
and discern it just like you would a vocation. VYMs are adult Lay
Ministers who commit their time and talents to work with the young
people of the church. It is their primary ministry in the church
and all other involvement is secondary. VYMs must also commit to
continuing education and must work on earning a Certificate in Youth
Ministry Studies through the Center of Ministry Development. All
VYMs work in Youth Ministry under the direct supervision of the
Director of Youth Ministry and serve within the limits of all the
policies of the parish and diocese. This is probably the most fulfilling
way to serve in a parish environment, working with young people
insuring the future of our church.

Adults (18-30) |
Contact:
Parrish Office

| Question:
So what happens to youth once they graduate high school and are 18
years of age or older? Answer: They are encouraged
to join the Young Adult Group at St. Isaac Jogues. High school graduation
does not mean you disappear. It just means that you are ready to make
a transition to adult life. This group is all about helping young
adults come to the maturity that is necessary in both service to the
community and in their own faith. Their faith becomes alive and spills
over into their life into college, work and home.
Young Adult Ministry aims to:
- Connect
Young Adults with Jesus Christ who will introduce them to God’s
vision
- Connect
Young Adults with the Faith Community of St. Isaac Jogues
- Connect
Young Adults with the Mission of the Church in the World
- Connect
Young Adults with their peers and build community
The Young
Adult Group
meets on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. in Modular B
in a small group environment with scripture
study, faith sharing, activities, and an exciting retreat every
year. The active members of this group also respond to the needs
of the parish in service in the community. It’s all about
sharing what you have with one another!
